I’m blogging obsessed right now, you guys. I hope you’re not getting tired of seeing me poppin’ up on your feed, but I just want to blog e’ry day! I wasn’t tagged in this one, but I did go on a hunt for book tags so I could have something to do/post. Sorry not sorry. I found this tag via HowlingLibraries (also keeping your choice of gif for the first question cause it’s 100%).
The Ultimate Book Tag
1. DO YOU GET SICK WHILE READING IN THE CAR?
YES. I’ll still do it sometimes, if I’m reading while waiting on someone and then they’re ready to go before I get to a good stopping point. I can’t put a book down in the middle of a paragraph unless I know I’ll be coming right back to it. It’s page breaks or new chapters or there’s no stopping!
2. WHICH AUTHOR’S WRITING STYLE IS COMPLETELY UNIQUE TO YOU AND WHY?
I thought this when I first started reading Karen Russell, but I’m not sure she’s completely unique. I specifically noticed her weird, out-there analogies, which I absolutely loved, but I’ve noticed a similar style among other authors (though not many) that I’ve read since.
3. HARRY POTTER SERIES OR THE TWILIGHT SAGA? GIVE 3 POINTS TO DEFEND YOUR ANSWER.
…Come on. Do I even have to answer this one? OBViously Harry Potter. Because 1) it’s been in my life since I was 7 years old, 2) it’s creative and magical (ha), and 3) the characters. Oh, the characters. My bbys Ron and Sirius and Remus and 😭 I actually think HP and the Deathly Hallows was the first book to make me cry. Cause Fred.
4. DO YOU CARRY A BOOK BAG? IF SO, WHAT IS IN IT (BESIDES BOOKS…)?
Since I graduated, I only use bookbags as overnight bags. I’ll just stick a book in my purse if I want to bring it with me (which I always do). Fun fact: that’s one of the things I look for when buying a new purse — if it’s big enough to hold a book or two.
5. DO YOU SMELL YOUR BOOKS?
Not really. Most of my books are used, so they don’t have that new book smell anymore.
6. BOOKS WITH OR WITHOUT LITTLE ILLUSTRATIONS?
WITH! I love books with illustrations! I wish more books had them. Tell me your fave illustrated books, cause I wanna read more.
7. WHAT BOOK DID YOU LOVE WHILE READING BUT DISCOVERED LATER IT WASN’T QUALITY WRITING?
Mmm, I don’t know if I’ve experienced this. I’ve read something and loved it and later went back to re-read it and discovered I didn’t love it quite as much as I remember, but it had nothing to do with the writing. Sometimes you just read books that resonate with you more during a certain point in your life, ya know?
8. DO YOU HAVE ANY FUNNY STORIES INVOLVING BOOKS FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD? PLEASE SHARE!
Green Eggs and Ham was one of my favorites when I was a kid, and I remember adding to the story quite a bit. Especially on that one page where there’s no text, but it’s just all the characters hanging out in the water with the “I do not like green eggs and ham” guy looking all pissed. I think I wrote something like, “Oh, Sam-I-am” and had that guy give a little speech about how grumpy he was.
There was also this book called Cajun Night Before Christmas that my uncle used to read to my brother and me around Christmas. My family’s from Louisiana, and my uncle has a pretty strong Cajun accent, so I used to love hearing him Cajunin’ it up!
9. WHAT IS THE THINNEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELF?
Though I usually opt for graphic novels over comic books, I got suuuper into Thor (primarily because of Loki) after the first movie came out, and I stocked up on some Loki-centric comics to fuel the fire. I only bought the comics cause they hadn’t finished releasing that specific arc, so there wasn’t a graphic novel available at the time.
10. WHAT IS THE THICKEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELF?
Probably Insomnia by Stephen King or Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. Neither of which I’ve read yet. They’re so long!
11. DO YOU WRITE AS WELL AS READ? DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE FUTURE AS BEING AN AUTHOR?
Yes! I’ve got one short story published and another that will be published at the end of March! Links to my published stories can be found on my About page. I’m hoping to keep it up and maybe one day hopefully write a book. It’s still a daunting feat, though. How do people write enough to fill a whole book???
12. WHEN DID YOU GET INTO READING?
I literally cannot remember a time when I wasn’t into reading. I was the kid who’d check out the maximum number of books from the library (the limit was 25) cause I couldn’t get enough. Bookworm from birth to death!
13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CLASSIC BOOK?
Frankenstein. Hands. Down. And The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Ugh, love those two stories so much.
14. IN SCHOOL WHAT WAS YOUR BEST SUBJECT?
15. IF YOU WERE GIVEN A BOOK AS A PRESENT THAT YOU HAD READ BEFORE AND HATED…WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Pretend to be grateful, plan to get rid of it, forget to get rid of it, and deal with it sitting on my shelf for the rest of eternity.
16. WHAT IS A LESSER KNOWN SERIES THAT YOU KNOW OF THAT IS SIMILAR TO HARRY POTTER OR THE HUNGER GAMES?
Uhhhhh. No idea.
17. WHAT IS A BAD HABIT YOU ALWAYS DO (BESIDES RAMBLING) WHILE FILMING?
I’m assuming this tag was originally meant for book vloggers, lol. Does not apply! I’m super awkward on camera, so I avoid filming myself if I can. I tried to do the whole YouTube thing to try and force myself past that, buuuut that didn’t work, and I quit pretty early on. Blogging is definitely more my thing.
18. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORD?
Hm. I actually haven’t had a favorite word in a while. In high school, I used to love the word “surreptitious.” I used it in a minimum of three angsty teen goth poems.
19. ARE YOU A NERD, DORK, OR DWEEB? OR ALL OF THE ABOVE?
I used to be hella nerdy (like, teaching myself Elvish kind of nerdy, complete with a notebook full of notes), but I’d say I fall under the dork category these days.
20. VAMPIRES OR FAIRIES? WHY?
I was a goth kid in high school, so I’ll always choose vampires. Even now that Twilight exists. Because we all know those aren’t the real vampires. Y’all need some Nosferatu type of vamps in your lives!
21. SHAPESHIFTERS OR ANGELS? WHY?
Shapeshifters all the way!
22. SPIRITS OR WEREWOLVES? WHY?
Mmm, I don’t know, actually. I don’t read many ghost stories, but I also haven’t read many werewolf stories, either. It’d just depend on the story, honestly. Though I am interested in reading a werewolf story now.
23. ZOMBIES OR VAMPIRES?
Vampires. I got worn out on zombies real quick, and ever since I just couldn’t get back into them. I might watch a zombie movie every now and then (or binge-watch iZombie on Netflix, cause that show is SO GOOD), but I probably wouldn’t read a book about them. Unless it’s Pet Sematary, cause I’ve already decided I’m reading that one at some point. Plus, zombie pets doesn’t really count.
24. LOVE TRIANGLE OR FORBIDDEN LOVE?
I don’t know, I haven’t been much into romance-y stuff for a while. Maybe cause I’ve got my own romance goin’ on IRL, but idk, I just get irritated whenever romance gets thrown into a story. I just feel like there’s so much else that could be done.
25. AND FINALLY: FULL ON ROMANCE BOOKS OR ACTION-PACKED WITH A FEW LOVE SCENES MIXED IN?
Action-packed. Like I said before: I’m kinda worn out on romances. Gimme more excitement!
