I got this tag from Destiny at Howling Libraries. It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve partaken in a tag, so I figured this would be a good use of my time today. 😀
1. HOW MANY BOOKS ARE TOO MANY BOOKS IN A SERIES?
I’d say… 5+. With the exception of Harry Potter, of course. But yeah, unless a book series is just the best series of all time, I tend to lose interest after book 3 or 4. I started buddy reading this YA vampire series called House of Night a while back, but that series currently has 13 novels and counting. I’m sorry, but that is just insane. I think I got through the first five before I lost interest.
2. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CLIFFHANGERS?
I feel like everyone has a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers. Although I will say cliffhangers at the end of chapters > cliffhangers at the end of books. Especially if the next book hasn’t come out yet. That’s just unfair, and I usually lose that “I gotta know what happens next!” drive by the time the next book comes out, so it just doesn’t work as well.
3. HARDCOVER OR PAPERBACK
Paperback. I feel like I’m in the minority here, but paperbacks are just so much easier to handle. They’re lighter, they’re easier to hold, they have a bit more bend to them… Plus, they’re normally a lot cheaper.
4. FAVOURITE BOOK
5. LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK
6. LOVE TRIANGLES: YES OR NO
Eh, it’s not something I look for when deciding on my next read. I just feel like they’re everywhere, and they’re always the main focus of the book. Why put so much emphasis on love triangles when there’s so much more that could be written about??
7. THE MOST RECENT BOOK YOU JUST COULDN’T FINISH
The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. I honestly started it because the cover is so pretty, and I was really liking it at first, but I don’t know, I just started losing interest. There were a lot of characters being introduced right after one another so I kept losing sight of the title characters. I might pick it back up eventually, but as of now, it’s been sitting off to the side for the last few weeks.
8. A BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING
The Hunger Games! I haven’t been able to just sit down a read for a while, so I’ve been having to read it a chapter or two at a time, but I’m really liking it so far.
9. LAST BOOK YOU RECOMMENDED TO SOMEONE
I just wrote a post with some recommendations!
10. OLDEST BOOK YOU’VE READ
Well, I’ve read The Epic of Gilgamesh, which is the oldest known fictional story, so… that.
11. NEWEST BOOK YOU’VE READ
Oh gosh, I couldn’t even tell you. I haven’t even bought a new book in ages. I normally get my books from used book sales or used book websites, so most of them are at least a few years old by the time they get to me.
12. FAVOURITE AUTHOR
13. BUYING BOOKS OR BORROWING BOOKS
Buying, definitely. I don’t even like borrowing books from libraries anymore, mainly because sometimes it takes me longer than a few weeks to finish a book and I don’t want to have to worry about returning it on time. Plus, I like adding to my library!
14. A BOOK YOU DISLIKE THAT EVERYBODY ELSE SEEMS TO LIKE
Hm. I honestly can’t think of one right now. I tend to stray away from books that are super popular, so I don’t always read books that everyone else seems to like. However, when I do actually read books that seemingly everyone else is reading at the time, I tend to like them.
15. BOOKMARKS OR DOG EARS
Bookmarks. Whether it’s an actual bookmark or a ripped off piece of notebook paper, I’ll choose place markers over dog-eared pages any day. Those creases never go away!
16. A BOOK YOU CAN ALWAYS RE-READ
I’m sure this is a lot of people’s answer, but the Harry Potter series. It’s my comfort read. I’ve gone back to that series so many times, and it’s always good to me.
17. CAN YOU READ WHILST LISTENING TO MUSIC
Noooo. Even instrumental music can distract me. I need total silence to be able to really get sucked into a book.
18. ONE POV OR MULTIPLE POVS
I really like multiple PoVs, as long as there aren’t too many. Two or three is probably the max for my taste. Otherwise, one PoV will do.
19. DO YOU READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING OR OVER MULTIPLE DAYS?
I very rarely read books in one sitting anymore. I used to do this a lot, but over the last few years I’ve had a much harder time sitting down and reading for long periods of time. It still happens every now and then — like when I read Stephen King’s Misery in two days — but most of the time it takes me days, even weeks, to get through a book, even if it’s a really good one.
20. A BOOK YOU’VE READ BECAUSE OF THE COVER
I actually judge books by their cover a lot. I can’t think of any I’ve read recently (aside from those mentioned in this post), but most of the books I buy at book sales are chosen because they have interesting covers. I don’t always have time to read the synopsis, especially at larger book sales that take me 3+ hrs to search through even without pausing to read synopses, so sometimes I’ll just grab books based on their covers and look over them later.
If you’d like to join the tag, I’m tagging you!
