Book Blogger Hop, Discussions, Weekly Memes

Book Blogger Hop (March 23-29): Book Chat

The Book Blogger Hop is a meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week, a new book-themed question is posted, and this week’s question is…

When meeting with friends, do your discussions usually turn to books?

It depends on which friends we’re talking about! When it comes to my bff Alex @ Finding Montauk, absolutely! He’s actually a pretty big reason why I ended up starting this blog in the first place, as he got me into bookstagramming on Instagram, which rekindled my love for books and my love for talking about books, which then led to the creation of this blog! So when we’re reunited (which isn’t as often as it should be!), we’ll often spend quite a bit of time talking about book stuff.

Surprisingly, I don’t have many other friends who I do this with. Though our conversations don’t always turn to books, there are one or two friends who I’ve had many a bookish discussion with — Victoria… Tela… There aren’t many others. That’s one reason I love blogging so much, because I get to meet so many more awesome book lovers!

Do you have more online or in person bookish friends?

  1. I probably have more bookish friends online than in-person, to be honest, haha. The blogging community is awesome in that way because we get to meet so many others with similar interests!

  2. I have 0 book-reading friends offline 😢 I mean they do read books, but like 4-5 a year, so there’s not much to discuss 😣 And my bf reads sometimes but the stuff I already read and then made him read 😄

    1. Aw! Well that’s what blogging is for, right? 😀 I wish I had more book loving friends, but most of mine are the same as yours, where they’ll read maybe a couple books per year. I keep trying to get my bf into reading, but he really only read technical stuff or books about space. Basically everything I have a hard time wrapping my head around, lol. Really the only fiction stories he’s read he didn’t actually read but I read them to him, haha.

      1. Yess, now I have bloggofriends ❤ Mine too, that's why I only buy them books for birthdays, then they don't really have a choice 😀 Ahaha my bf also reads about space, and science and ancient civilizations, but I made him read A song of ice and fire, and he loved it 🙂

      2. Ahaha yeah, he’s into that whole thing ‘how things work’ and origins of everything and the mysteries of outer space, where I’m like dragons!monsters!sword fights! but we share a lot and I’m slowly converting him haha 😀 AHAHA yay, you’ll like it here, burgers for $1 and books for $3 😀

  3. I definitely feel as if I have more friends online who share the same interests as me. In real life, I don’t usually discuss books with the friends I do have because they usually don’t share the same reading preferences or just don’t read. I definitely agree that it’s great to be part of the book blogging community because you get to meet so many different people and interact in ways that you might’ve missed out on. It’s always nice to meet new people who have the same interests as well and it’s good to know that people do care about what you’re saying! It’s so cool that your friend also got you into blogging!

    1. Same! Especially since starting this blog. I feel like I’ve always had more online friends who share more of my interests than my in-person friends. The internet is a wonderful place, haha.

    1. That’s so awesome that you have family members who love books! My mom and sister like to read, but they prefer romance novels, and that’s not really my thing. Thanks for reading!

  4. I think sometimes it’s difficult to talk with friends about books if you haven’t both read the same book. Otherwise, it seems like all you can do is kind of give an explanation of why they should read it/why it was the worst and then…the conversation is over. I don’t want to give spoilers out so it’s awkward talking about a book the other person isn’t familiar with!

    1. Very true! I usually end up talking about general stuff so I don’t give anything away, or we’ll talk about book sales or what books we’ve picked up lately. Of course it’s always more fun if they’ve read the book I want to talk about!

  5. I think the whole reason why I joined this community is so I could talk about books, I definitely have more online friends that I can talk to about books😂 probably none of my friends enjoy reading or talking about books as much as me, which is sad haha

    1. Aw. that is sad! Seems to be a trend on here, though, having more online book friends than offline. It just makes me love this community even more, though, cause now we all have more people to talk to about books!

  6. I’m lucky that my boyfriend is also someone who enjoys books, and sometimes we even compete to see who finishes a book faster! My best friend is also someone who loves books, but other people around me don’t really like them, much less talk about them. Recently, I’ve found some people IRL who are into books as well, and we’ve been exchanging suggestions, so that’s good!

I’m also really glad I joined this blogging community because yay more people to talk books with!

    1. Aw, that sounds so nice! I’ve tried to get my bf into reading many times, but he prefers to have me read to him, which I honestly don’t mind cause then I get into the storytelling and it’s fun for me, haha. Aw, yay for more IRL bookish friends!

      1. That’s so cute that he wants you to read to him! We do it when the other person’s sick, sort of like a bedtime story. Although I’m not that good of a storyteller 😂

      2. Hahahahaha oh yes, I definitely can understand that feeling. I like to comfort myself by thinking that since my reading is so monotonous, it helps him fall asleep hahahahah

    1. Aw, I totally understand that. Even I stopped reading as much for a while, just because life gets so crazy when you get older. It sucks when all your friends stop reading, too.
