Weekly Wrap-Up #1

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things you’ve received, and share news about what is coming up for the week on your blog.

Dania over at Bookish Thoughts got me on to this weekly meme, and I thought it was a great way to provide a brief overview of the last week as well as to provide some updates about what’s going on in my life. Feel free to take this chance to tell me about what’s been going on in your lives as well! I love hearing from you guys, and I want to know what’s been up! 😀

— Life Updates —

It’s been a pretty eventful week over here in Kara land. I went to two concerts: one featuring Papa Roach (a band I loved in high school) and A Day to Remember, and the other featuring McCafferty, a band I just recently got into. Both shows were incredible and very… interesting, I guess is the word I would use.

The Papa Roach/A Day to Remember show ended right as a really bad storm hit Atlanta, complete with lightning, torrential downpours, and threats of tornadoes. The boy and I decided to risk it and run the quarter mile or so to get to our car, and boy was that a dumb move on our part. The storm picked up when we were about halfway to the car, and we got stuck in 70mph winds with rain hitting us so hard we could barely open our eyes to see. I ended up having to be led back to the car by the bf cause I was scared my contacts were literally going to fly out of my eyes. I have never experienced anything like it. We were completely soaked within less than a minute of being outside, and the car still smells mildew-y from the ride back home. It was definitely an adventure, though, I guess I can say that.

The worst part is that adventure got me soooo sick. I just got over having an awful sore throat, and this morning I woke up with a stuffy/runny nose, so I’ve been spending today sniffling and sneezing. I just can’t get a break. At least the concerts were good, though!

— Book Reviews —

I was introduced to the world of NetGalley this past week, so I went a little crazy with ARCs. I had also been slacking on reviews, so I tried to make up for that over the last week. I also finally finished up The Hunger Games, which I had been reading for way too long to admit, and I got a review up for that one as well.

Speaking of NetGalley, do you guys have any recommendations for book reviewers who prefer hard copies? I love NetGalley for graphic novels and shorter books, but I don’t have an e-reader, and reading full-length novels on my computer is no bueno. Are there any sites out there that send physical copies in exchange for reviews?

This was a pretty fun week for tags! Check out the links for some of my favorite quotes + some fun info on Shakespeare.

I was also nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I’m always floored whenever someone nominates me for anything, and I really really appreciate you guys thinking of me for these awards. I’m so happy to be a part of this amazing community!

— Current Reads —

I received the western/science fiction novel Terminal Core from the author, Lynn Steigleder, a couple weeks back in exchange for an honest review. I finally got a chance to start it, and I’m enjoying it so far! I don’t normally like westerns, but this has a sort of Firefly feel, if you guys have seen that show, where it’s more like cowboys in space. I don’t know when I’ll be getting a review up since I’m still getting down with the sickness, but I hope to finish this one in the next week or so. (I’m a slow reader sometimes, I’m sorry!)

And that about does it for my first weekly wrap-up!

What have you been up to this week?

  1. Oooh western/sci-fi? I’ve never read that genre before! I do like books set in outer space though… I might have to check it out! Glad you had a great week! 🙂

  2. I used to really love Papa Roach! (Not that I don’t anymore, but my preferred genre of music has changed slightly.) But that’s so cool you went to their show! The weather sucked, but still! Love the pics you took, too. As for the e-reader/NetGalley dilemma, have you considered downloading the Kindle app on your phone (or iPad/tablet, if you have one)? That’s what I use. I have the Kindle app on both my phone and tablet for my e-reading. I prefer it a bit more myself, just because I can have a bunch of books with me at all times. And plus I love NetGalley😂

    1. Nice! I don’t really listen to them anymore, but it was still super cool to see them! It satisfied my high school self, haha.

I actually think I’m just going to buy a Kindle when I can afford it. My phone is a PoS and I’d like something with a bigger screen.

      1. I’ve never had an actual Kindle before, but I do highly recommend iPad. Even the smaller ones. They’re much bigger than the phones but they also have apps and internet access, so it’s pretty neat to have everything you need all in one place like that, including your books! But if you do get a Kindle, let me know how you like it! I’ve heard good things about them.

      2. That is true! Though I do like the idea of having something that doesn’t have a ton of distractions on it like apps and stuff. But I’ll still probably look into iPads when I’m in the market. 😀

  3. Ahh I’m so sorry you had that storm experience, I had one similar, also after a concert, but it was in the summer and gravel was involved 😧 Western/sci-fi sounds interesting, since I LOVE Westworld! 😊 I’m glad you had a nice week (except the storm and the sickness), and I look forward to your next week’s posts! ❤

    1. Oh wow, that’s no good! My parents were texting me throughout the concert warning me of tornadoes, so it was hard to enjoy the concert cause I get super anxious about tornadoes. I hope you have a great week, too! Thanks for reading 😀

  4. NO WONDER YOU GOT SICK. I hope the concert was fun though. Stay hydrated! Also, Terminal Core reminds me of some anime I’ve watched, with cowboys in space.

    1. It didn’t even occur to me that that was the cause until my bf mentioned it yesterday. DUH.

Cowboy Bebop? (I’ve never actually watched that anime, but I know it’s something to do with cowboys in space, lol)

      1. You’re so adorable LOL you must have wondered if you got infected from other people at the concert. (I do that all the time and curse at sick people at lecture halls).

YES, that one. Although, I haven’t really watched it all the way, just once or twice so I didn’t really know what the plot was.
