— Life Updates —
Phew! This week was exhausting! This was my second week at my new job, and I’m still loving it so, so, so much, but living that work-from-home “always on the computer” life is taking its toll on my eyes. It didn’t hit me until Friday, but boy did it hit me. I ended up getting a headache that kept on going through Saturday, and I’m pretty sure it was from the eye strain. I’m thinking I’m going to start setting alarms for every 30 minutes during the week so I can remember to give me eyes a break just for a few minutes throughout the work day. Cause that’s what responsible people do. And also people who hate getting headaches.
Aside from that fatigue, it was a great week! The bf and I had some friends over for dinner and a game night on Friday, and it was so much fun! We played Happy Salmon (I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH. It’s super simple, but super fun) and Codenames, and we have plans to play Captain Sonar at our next game night, which we’ve played before and had a blast playing. I’m so excited to play it again! I also got a few late birthday presents that night!
These came from one of my best friends who I’ve known since middle school. She is legitimately one of the most amazing gift-givers and an incredible friend, and I’m so excited to use all the things she got me 😀 It’s literally all the things I love in one pile: reading, cooking, and Shakespeare!
The Geeky Chef Cook Book is AMAZING. It has every nerdy/geeky recipe you could ever imagine… and more! It’s got drinks (alcohol and non-alcoholic), snacks, meals, and desserts from everything nerdy. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Zelda, Harry Potter (butterbeer!!!), Game of Thrones, Firefly, Mass Effect, Discworld, The Hunger Games, just… everything! I’ll be sure to make some posts about the recipes when I try some out, and I’ll share how they went!
And the book journal!!! As I opened it, she told me, “I thought you could use it for your book blog,” and I just can’t get over how amazing and thoughtful she is. ❤ I will absolutely use it for this blog! I already broke it in with my first entry for Christina Henry’s Alice. Such a perfect gift! And the Shakespearean sticky notes, too! I was actually just talking to my bf the other day about needing those skinny sticky note strips to help organize my work notebooks (I’ve been taking a lot of notes), and then I get these! Talk about perfect timing.
Today is my dedicated lazy day, which I feel like I deserve after last week. Yesterday, the bf and I went to my dad’s for a while to hang out, eat delicious food (and cinnamon rolls for dessert — yum!), and play with some chickens. Him and my step-mom were wanting me to take some pics of their hen house to show off to their friends. It’s seriously insane. My dad built it to look like a western town, and it’s crazy how good it looks. I’ll throw up a picture so you guys can see.
And a closer pic so you can see some of the details. Featuring my step-mom and a very small portion of her chickens. I don’t even know how many she has at this point. So, so many chickens.
Wow, okay, I did not plan on this update being so long, but I just like talking to you guys about what’s been going on in my life! But on to the blog-related stuff…

Ah! I’m just now realizing that I didn’t do the Book Blogger Hop again this week. Baaaaaah. This weekend was just so crazy, and my eyes were so strained from work that I just took some time off from the computer for a couple days. I totally forgot about the Book Blogger Hop. How you guys with full-time jobs, social lives, and regular posts do it, I’ll never know. I did do a Top Ten Tuesday this week, though, so there’s that!

I heard of Christina Henry’s book, Lost Boy (a retelling of Peter Pan that focuses on Captain Hook), a few weeks back from another book blogger, and I’ve been hunting it down every since. I kind of screw myself over because I never buy books new anymore. My books always come from used book websites, used book stores, or used book sales. The key is “used” here, if you couldn’t tell. But anyway, I went looking for Lost Boy, but the only book of hers that I found was Alice, which is a dark retelling of Alice in Wonderland. I’m not a super crazy hardcore Alice in Wonderland fan or anything, but I just can’t say no to a good retelling, and just look at this cover! How could I pass that up? I started reading it today, and I’m really enjoying it so far! Definitely glad I picked this one up.
