It must have been fate when I published my review of 11.22.63 earlier today and then immediately saw all the Top Ten Tuesday posts about binge-worthy shows. You know I can’t pass up a chance to talk about my favorite shows, especially with so many good ones coming out lately!
A high school English teacher travels back in time in an attempt
to stop JFK’s assassination from ever happening.
Ugggghhhh, this show. I love it so, so, SO much. It’s so heartbreaking and perfect. The actors are all incredible, and I’m tearing up just thinking about their performances and the things their characters had to go through. This show is just so good. If you want to hear me continue gushing, you can check out my full review here.
Favorite characters: Jake and Sadie 😥

Set in the 1970s, Mindhunter focuses on the introduction
of psychological profiling in the FBI.
This show will give you some really off feelings. The characters are so real and so haunting, and it’s easy to get so far sucked into this show that you forget it’s just a show. Especially with how great of a job the actors do. If you really want to give yourself goosebumps, watch the interviews that take place in the show, and then go look up the real interviews those scenes were based on. They sure did a helluva good job with that casting. And with everything else. Seriously. Go watch this show. Season 2 is scheduled for a November release!
Favorite characters: Holden, Ed Kemper

The geniuses of the world live in one small town together.
Things go wrong a lot.
Guys, Eureka is SO GOOD. I binge-watched the crap out of this show. It’s so hilarious and ridiculous, and I just couldn’t stop! It’s great when you need a good slightly campy sci-fi show, or if you’re just looking for a really good show.
Favorite characters: Carter, Fargo, and Andy
Eureka is available to stream on Amazon.
A group of friends living together.
But better than Friends.
Literally every single one of the characters on this show is hilarious. It takes a few episodes (maybe a season) for them to really find their character, but once they do, it’s perfect. I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d like this show when I first started it, but after I watched that final episode, I just wanted to start at the beginning and watch it all over again. So good.
Fun fact: It took me WAY longer than necessary to find a good gif for this one because literally everything Nick says and does is gold.
Favorite characters: Nick, Schmidt, and Winston
New Girl is available to stream on Netflix.
The Good Place
A not-so-great woman accidentally gets sent
to “the good place” after death.
Another hilarious show! I just really love good, lighthearted shows, and this is definitely one of them. I was full-on cracking up so many times. The third season comes out at the end of this month!
Favorite characters: Chidi and Janet

A girl-turned-zombie solves murder cases by eating brains
and getting glimpses into the deceased person’s life.
Rose McIver (“Liv Moore”) is SO GOOD at becoming so many different types of people. Hopeless romantic, sex addict, hockey fanatic, conspiracy theorist… Every time her character eats a brain, she adopts that person’s personality, and she’s just so good at it! Not to mention hilarious. And Ravi! Ravi’s my absolute favorite (though there are so many good characters to choose from). He’s just great. Just so great. The whole show’s great. Very Buffy-esque. And what I love about it is there are a few times where it seems like it’s starting to get monotonous or boring, but then they do some crazy thing that actually makes sense, and it just revitalizes the whole show. Love it.
Plus, the girl from Phil of the Future plays in it. And the cooking scenes are just too cool.
Favorite characters: Ravi, Blaine, and Liv when she’s on brains
iZombie is available to stream on Netflix.
A bookshop owner with no customer service skills goes through his
day-to-day life with his employee and neighboring store owner.
My absolutely favorite British comedy show! Dylan Moran is just fantastic in everything, especially as grumpy, cigarette-loving, wine-guzzling Bernard Black. It’s an absolutely ridiculous show, but it’s so funny and just a really good show to watch when you want to relax and just have a good 20-minute break from life.
Favorite characters: Bernard Black, Manny, and Fran
Black Books is available to stream on Hulu.
A show following NYPD detectives as they handle
both criminals and their daily lives.
Another perfect lighthearted show. Can you tell what kind of shows I tend to be drawn to? Brooklyn Nine-Nine is just so funny all the time, and it’s really good for winding down.
Favorite characters: Gina, Captain Holt, and Jake Peralta
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is available to stream on Netflix.
Parks and Recreation
A glimpse into the world of Indiana’s
parks and rec department.
One of the BEST SHOWS EVER. Which is funny because I didn’t like it the first time I tried watching it. I got a few episodes into season one and gave up. But I stuck with it the second time around, and it’s so good. It’s funny and ridiculous and heartwarming and just all-around perfect.
Favorite characters: April, Jean-Ralphio, and Chris Traeger
Parks and Recreation is available to stream on Netflix.
The Office (US)
A documentary-style show about the
lives of office workers.
Come on, what would a top ten list be without The Office? And again, at first, I almost didn’t watch the whole show. Michael got on my last nerve so many times in season one. It was honestly pretty tough to push through that. God, he was so annoying. But luckily, he got a lot better, and honestly some of the more heart-breaking moments were focused around him.
Favorite characters: Dwight, Oscar, and Jim and Pam as a couple
